Vlog: A Day Exploring 5 Traditional Craft Villages in Da Nang

Hello everyone 👋, today I’m taking you on a super exciting journey – exploring 5 traditional craft villages in Da Nang. This city isn’t just about beaches and mountains, it’s also home to centuries-old crafts that carry the soul of Quang Nam culture. Honestly, I only realized after this trip that Da Nang is so much more than Dragon Bridge or Ba Na Hills!

🪨 Non Nuoc Stone Carving Village

First stop – Non Nuoc Stone Carving Village. Located at the foot of Marble Mountains, this place feels like a “stone art wonderland.” Walking through the village, I was amazed by countless statues of Buddha, lions, dragons – big and small.

A local craftsman told me the village has existed for over 200 years, passed down from generation to generation. Watching skillful hands hammer and chisel every detail… I was honestly impressed. At one moment, I stood there thinking – these stones almost felt alive.

You can combine it with a Marble Mountains visit and a Hoi An night tour.

🐟 Nam O Fish Sauce Village – salty taste of the sea

Leaving Non Nuoc, I headed north to Nam O Village. As soon as I arrived, the aroma of fish sauce filled the air. Here, locals still preserve the traditional way of making fish sauce – fermenting fresh anchovies in clay jars for months.

The best part? I got to taste fish sauce straight from a freshly opened jar. The flavor was rich, slightly sweet, salty but smooth. Pair it with fresh herbs or rice paper rolls, and wow – that’s the taste of home! I even brought some bottles back as gifts.

🌾 Cam Ne Mat Weaving Village – weaving threads of memory

Next, I dropped by Cam Ne Village, about 10 km southwest of Da Nang. Famous since the 15th century, this village is known for its handmade mats. Watching artisans rhythmically weave sedge threads with a “click-clack” sound was oddly soothing.

One elder smiled and told me: “Back in the day, Cam Ne mats were once offered to the king.” How amazing is that? Looking at a finished mat – thick, smooth, durable – I finally understood why this craft has survived for centuries.

🍘 Tuy Loan Rice Paper Village – crispy soul of the countryside

In the afternoon, I made my way to Tuy Loan Village – heaven for rice paper lovers. The rice papers here are huge, almost as big as a conical hat, and when grilled, the aroma fills the entire neighborhood.

I even tried making one myself – felt like crafting an “edible artwork” 😅. Locals shared that this craft has been around for more than 500 years, and just recently in 2024, it was recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Tasting a freshly grilled rice paper roll with pork right in the village… oh my gosh, it was next-level delicious!

🍪 Cam Le Sesame Cake Village – sweet childhood memories

My last stop of the day was Cam Le Village. The moment I walked in, the nutty aroma of roasted sesame seeds filled the air. Their sesame cakes are small, crispy, and addictive – one bite, and you can’t stop.

Locals told me the craft boomed in the 1950s, and today about 20 households still carry it on. The most famous brand? “Ba Lieu Sesame Cakes” – a name that rings a bell for many people here. To me, biting into these sesame cakes felt like tasting a piece of childhood – simple yet full of love.

🎥 Wrapping up the journey through Da Nang’s traditional craft villages

After a day exploring these five villages, I realized Da Nang isn’t just charming for its modern skyline or stunning beaches, but also for its living traditions. If you ever visit this city, don’t just stick to My Khe Beach or Ba Na Hills day trip – spend a day wandering through these villages. Trust me, this experience will leave you with memories far deeper than any Instagram check-in!
